ELEVATE YOUR SQUATS!
Have you ever seen anyone put plates or wedges under their heels when they squat? Do you know why people do that? This week we will be discussing exactly that and its benefits.
Here are the reasons why lifters elevate their heels during squats:
To increase their squat depth
It feels comfortable
To keep their torso more upright and increase demand on the quads
Elevating your heels increases your squat depth and technique, especially if your ankle or hip mobility is limited. This can be a quick solution to improve form, but it is important not to rely on heel elevation.
It is important to work on ankle mobility to ensure you have the full range of motion of the ankle joint. Doing this ankle mobility exercise linked here can help with that. Elevating the heels AND practicing your ankle dorsiflexion will make your squat feel more comfortable.
Although this hack will help you squat, you don’t want to use it every time you squat. Consider it a tool to help you work on mobility and technique. Don’t use it as a fast solution to improve your squat. Instead work on your mobility and use it as a strategy to improve your fitness.
Here is a video on how elevating your heels looks and it’s benefits.
